One nest box, many ducks

This morning’s duck-off

Problem, there were four pairs of wood ducks and only one big nest box. They are not at all interested in the nearby “wood duck nest box” except as a perching platform, it’s the massive black cockatoo box or nothing. There are almost no large hollow-bearing trees in our local area and much competition for them. So the situation is desperate for a chance to raise young.

Daily inspections for two weeks now, and then this duck-off. Must be getting pretty close to laying!
